Sunglasses: One Accessory You Don’t Want To Be Without This Summer

We all know by now that too much sun isn’t good for your skin and the same is true for our eyes. Long term exposure to the sun’s UV rays has been linked to the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. It can also make the delicate skin around your eyes wrinkly – plus, it just feels more comfortable not squinting against the sun all day.

It’s important to choose sunglasses that have a CE mark and are UV400 protected– this information is usually printed on the arms or look out for a sticker. These lenses will block at least 95% of UV rays. Check your kid’s sunglasses – they are particularly susceptible to UV damage, so it’s really important that their sunglasses carry the CE mark too.

Even on cloudy days, it’s worth popping on a pair of sunglasses. The sun’s UV rays can still reach your eyes and skin through the cloud, so you need to be careful if you’re going to be out all day. Reflective light is powerful too – the glare from a wet puddle or a window will bounce UV radiation back at you.
